Georgia Pacific Donates $50,000!

February 9, 2011

At a ceremony and tour held at Wauna Mill in Clatskanie, Georgia Pacific announced a $50,000 gift to the Vernonia Education Foundation for our new schools.
“This is a significant donation for Georgia-Pacific and it symbolizes the commitment we have for the State of Oregon and for our belief that education is one of the most important and essential building blocks of a strong and thriving community,” notes Vice-President and Mill Manager Mike Tompkins.
The donation was made possible by several Georgia-Pacific facilities in the State of Oregon and Southwest Washington through the Georgia-Pacific Foundation. The Georgia-Pacific facilities that contributed to this $50,000 community investment include: Wauna Consumer Products Mill, Clatskanie, Ore.; Camas Consumer Products Mill, Camas, Wash.; Toledo Containerboard Mill, Toledo, Ore; Coos Bay Lumber Mill, Coos Bay, Ore.; and the Philomath Lumber Mill, Philomath, Ore.
“I would like to thank all of the Georgia-Pacific facilities that helped make this donation possible. In the spirit of the Pacific Northwest’s long timber history, these facilities have come together to support the youth in a timber town during their moment of need, “states Public Affairs Manager Kristi Ward. “This contribution represents the types of commitments for which Georgia-Pacific is known including our commitment to youth, to education, to the rural timber communities in which we operate and to continuing to be a long term partner with the timber industry.”

On behalf of both the District and Vernonia Education Foundation, I would like to thank Georgia Pacific and their employees for their contribution to the future of our children!
