Ford Family Foundation Gives $1M Challenge

November 23, 2010

The Ford Family Foundation has issued a million dollar challenge to the rest of the philanthropic community. They will match dollar for dollar gifts of $100,000 or more to a total of $500,000 as well as another $500,000 for gifts of $25,000 or more. This is a wonderful positive for our project.
In making this exceptional gift the foundation pointed to four things that influenced their decision: 1) two significant floods in eleven years; 2) our new schools are the priority not only for the district, but also the community (as evidenced by the passage of the bond), the city, the county and the state; 3) Vernonia’s participation in the Ford Institute Leadership Program over the past few years, and 4) the district’s current “participation in the Chalkboard Project’s CLASS pilot program as evidence the community is actively seeking to make its new schools among the best in Oregon.”
Our thanks to the Ford Family Foundation for taking such a significant leadership position in supporting our project throughout the state.
