Two 500-year floods in 11 years have ravaged the historic logging town of Vernonia, leaving its entire K-12 school system in disrepair. The community knows that its schools are the key to recovery, and has passed a $13 million bond to serve as the down payment for a new school system—and a brighter future.

Now, with an opportunity to create a national model for sustainable rural schools and a catalyst for economic development, we look to Oregonians and beyond to help secure the balance and make the new Vernonia schools a reality.
